Student Leadership Development: Staff

Director

Geoff Harrison, Assistant Director
Geoff has been working in the field of recreation for over 20 years and has been fostering student development with Boise State students since 1998. Geoff is an active member of the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education and has served both as a board member and interim national director. He earned an undergraduate degree in Recreation Administration from Humboldt State University and Master's of Sport and Recreation Management from the University of Idaho.

Coordinator

Mat Erpelding, Coordinator
Mat has been teaching, guiding, and learning about outdoor education since 1995. Mat currently teaches wilderness first responders for the Wilderness Medicine Training Center, and expedition courses for the Wilderness Education Association and the American Alpine Institute. Mat is finishing his master's degree in education at the University of Idaho. Of course, when not living in the spacious quarters afforded to him by his van, he can be found scaling peaks and walls with the intent of gazing out over the valley below from a porta-ledge.

Outdoor Manager

Ashley Chapman, Outdoor Program Operations Manager
Ashley has been working with the Outdoor Program for almost 2 years.

She is majoring in Social Science.

Outdoor Program trips and programs Ashley has lead include 3 kids camps summer of 2007, Wilderness Quest summer 2007, 2 Yoga Backpacking trips 2007, and 2008, Snake River Birds of Prey Backpacking 2008, several day and sunset hikes, many rafting trips for university programs like ASBSU, BSU Womens Swim Team, the Upward Bound Program, and more. Ashley has also taught several climbing programs including Women, that Rock, blind climbing, and E-girls.

Ashley's most memorable outdoor adventure is her first trip on the Middle Fork of the Salmon, because she believes that area highlights Idaho as one of the greatest States in the nation.

Ashley's favorite outdoor activities are whitewater rafting, kayaking, backpacking, hiking, rock climbing, and skiing.

Mat Jost, Outdoor Program Trips Manager
Mat has been working with the Outdoor Program for 1 year.

He is majoring in Business Management with an Entrepreneurial Business minor.

Outdoor Program trips and programs Mat has lead include several rafting trips, kayaking classes, and spring break surf trip 2008.

Mat's most memorable outdoor adventure is rafting the whole north fork of the Payette, because it was a first decent to his knowledge in a paddle boat.

Mat's favorite outdoor activities include kayaking, skiing, hunting, mountain biking, and backpacking.

Corey Crownhart,
Corey has been working with the Outdoor Program for 1 year.

Corey is majoring in Political Science and Mathematics.

Outdoor Program trips and programs Corey has lead include Snake River Backpacking, Outdoor Climbing, and Rafting with ASBSU.

Corey's most memorable outdoor adventure is canyoneering in Utah with very unfamiliar territory and beautiful scenery.

Corey's favorite outdoor activities include climbing, whitewater rafting, kayaking, caving, and cooking.

Erin Downey , Trip leader, Rental Attendent, Climbing Attendent
Erin has been working with the Outdoor Program for almost 2 years.

She is majoring in Supply Chain Management, and a minor in communications.

Outdoor Program trips and programs Erin has lead include Wilderness Quest 2007, 2 Yoga backpacking trips in 2007, and 2008, Spring Break Surf Trip 2008, Sawtooth backpacking trip 2008, she has also participated in several rafting, and climbing programs with the outdoor program.

Erin's most memorable outdoor adventure is a sunset hike with other Outdoor Program employees Ashley and Isaac up Hulls Gulch she says it was gorgeous, nature, sunset, and pictures.

Erin's favorite outdoor activities include walking in the sun, walking in the rain, running on the dirt, skiing, and mountain biking.

Brooke Finch,
Brooke has been working with the Outdoor Program for 7 months.

Brooke is majoring in Radiological Science.

Outdoor Program trips and programs Brooke has lead include Sawtooth backpacking, Rafting, Climbing at Black Cliffs, and Day Hikes.

Brooke's most memorable outdoor adventure is backpacking in the Sawtooth mountains.

Brooke's favorite outdoor activities include snowboarding, hiking, outdoor photography, swimming, "waverunnering", camping, and gardening.

Renee Harris,
Renee has been working for the Outdoor Program for 1 year.

Renee is majoring in Recreation Leadership.

Outdoor Program trips and programs Renee has lead include Snowshoeing, Day Hikes, and contracted trips-the most notable of which is teaching a 13 week class of 7th grade charter students who come to the OP for a climbing/outdoor skills elective class.

Renee's most memorable outdoor adventure is attending the 2007 staff training in the canyons of southern Utah.

Renee's favorite outdoor activities include camping, mt. biking, water/snow sports, and backpacking. "There is nothing quite like being able to throw everything you need on your back and just start walking through beautiful and pristine wilderness."

Colin Hozack,
Colin has been working with the Outdoor Program for 1 year.

Colin is majoring in Education.

Colin's most memorable outdoor adventure is climbing Mt. Rainier.

Colin's favorite outdoor activities include rock climbing, snowboarding, hiking, camping, and backpacking.

James Klocke,
James has been working with the Outdoor Program for 7 months.

James is majoring in Information Technology Management.

James' most memorable outdoor adventure is backpacking through the Sawtooth mountains. "The solitude and quiet was amazing."

James' favorite outdoor activities include skiing, backpacking, rafting, mt. biking, and climbing.

Tom Simenc,
Tom has been working for the Outdoor Program for 1 year.

Tom is majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

Tom's most memorable outdoor adventure is kayaking the Grand Canyon.

Dani Thomas,
Dani has been working with the Outdoor Program for 1 year.

Dani is majoring in Psychology and Spanish.
