Student Leadership Development


The Outdoor Program’s success is dependent upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities demonstrated by student leaders. The Outdoor Program enhances the mission of preparing students for success by providing leadership training and applied leadership opportunities. Through training, reflection, and assessment student leaders develop skills and become competent at: effective communication strategies, time management, group dynamics, risk management, and conflict resolution. Applied leadership opportunities within the rental program, adventure program, custom programs, and climbing gym provide opportunities to use critical thought and make decisions that have significant consequences for the participants. Leadership training is ongoing with weekly seminars and extensive multi-day learning expeditions happening on a monthly and quarterly basis. Student leaders design, develop, and execute participant-based programs that range in duration from 1-10 days.
