Safety Training

Backcountry Avalanche Safety
This seminar will provide the basic foundation of knowledge and judgment skills required for winter backcountry travel and backcountry skiing. Emphasis will be placed on assessing snow pack stability, route selection, group leadership, hazard assessment, rescue, and evacuation procedures. The first meeting will cover introductory material in a classroom session and the second day will be in the field at a backcountry site. However, the location may vary due to snow conditions. Instruction by John Groom, Payette Avalanche Center Forecaster.

Wilderness First Responder
Wilderness First Responder is the industry standard for wilderness medical training and is designed specifically to provide you with the tools to make critical emergency care and evacuation decisions in remote locations. Course topics include, but are not limited to: wound management, realigning fractures and dislocations, improvised splinting techniques, allergies, hypo & hyperthermia, gastrointestinal, infections, cardiac/respiratory conditions, patient monitoring, long term management and care.

River Safety/Rescue Seminar
This incredibly important seminar is designed for both whitewater rafters and kayakers and will focus heavily on boater judgment and accident prevention. Topics and activities will include: self-rescue, mid river recoveries, vertical and broach boat pins, knots, z-drags, vector pulls, tag line rescue, victim stabilization and recovery, and strong swimmer rescues. The fast-paced hands-on seminar will be taught primarily on the water. The class will camp together on Saturday night at the river site.

Transportation and meals are the responsibility of the participants. Personal safety and thermal gear will need to be provided by participants.
