Wilderness Quest 2009

Wilderness Quest 2009: Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous experience?
Absolutely NOT!!!! This trip is geared toward both people who have never backpacked and for those who have experience! We will teach you everything you need to know and more.

What does the trip fee cover?
The cost of Wilderness Quest covers the group food while you are on the adventure, group camping gear (tents, cook pans, water filters, stoves, etc.), technical gear, trip leadership, transportation, and a t-shirt.

How much extra money should I bring?
Your trip fee covers all expenses while you are on the adventure. We recommend having about $20.00 money in cash for any impulse items you may want while we are traveling to and from the trip sites.

Where on campus do I need to meet the group?
Wilderness Quest starts at 9am on August 15. You will meet your group in the Outdoor Program office located in the Student Recreation Center. The Outdoor Program office is located on the back-side of the Student Recreation Center and can be accessed by turning off University Drive onto Michigan Ave. At the first stop sign take a left onto Belmont Ave. The Outdoor Program rear entrance is on the corner of Belmont Avenue and Vermont Street. Download a campus map for further reference.

How might I physically and mentally prepare?
Wilderness Quest is designed to be a fun adventure; however, it does require physical activity. Engaging in exercise three times a week for about 20-30 minutes per session will help prepare you and will dramatically increase your enjoyment of the program. Activities such as bicycling, walking, running, and aerobics are excellent for preparation and are a great way to break in your equipment.

What will the weather be like?
The weather in August should be warm and dry; however, as we all know Mother Nature is unpredictable and rain can always happen. We will have fun regardless of the weather.
