Water Safety Courses

  • Lifeguard Training Course

    Prepare for employment as a lifeguard with the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training program. You will learn how to rescue patrons in water situations, learn CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and Health Care Provider, and First Aid.

    Must be at least 15 years of age and be able to complete the precourse requirements (300-yard swim, 2-minute tread, and timed brick retrieval event). The brick retrieval includes swimming 20 yards, diving to retrieve a 10 lb brick, followed by kicking on your back to return to your starting point with both hands on the brick and keeping your face out of the water. You must exit the water after returning to the start location within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Failure to pass the precourse requirements will result in inability to participate in the course and no refunds will be given. For a full demonstration of the precourse skills, please click here!

  • Lifeguard Review Course

    Review and re-certify your American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification. Available for participants with a current Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED  certificate.   • Lifeguard Instructor Course

    Are you ready to pass on your knowledge and experience as a lifeguard to others? The Lifeguard Instructor Course will prepare you to teach Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and many more courses! This course will prepare you by developing your understanding of course materials and methods, how to conduct training sessions, and how to evaluate participants’ progress.

    Must be at least 17 years of age, possess a current basic-level certification in Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, and be able to complete the precourse online material and in-person skills test (300 yard swim, 2 minute tread, timed brick retrieval, and two lifeguard scenarios). Failure to pass the precourse requirements will result in inability to participate in the course and no refunds will be given.   • Water Safety Instructor Course

    Do you love to swim and want to help others swim safely? The Water Safety Instructor Course will prepare you to teach American Red Cross Water Safety Course, including Parent/Child Aquatics, PreSchool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim, Basic Water Safety, and many more! Whether you want to splash around with children and teach them to swim safely, help swimmers of all ages refine their strokes, or teaching diving safety techniques, this is the course for you.

    Must be at least 16 years of age and be able to complete the precourse swimming skills at a Learn-to-Swim Level 4 ability (according to the LTS Level 4 Stroke Performance Chart). The skills are:

    • 25 yards Front Crawl (aka Freestyle)
    • 25 yards Back Crawl (aka Backstroke)
    • 25 yards Breaststroke
    • 25 yards Elementary Backstroke
    • 25 yards Sidestroke
    • 15 yards Butterfly
    • Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling)
    • Tread water for 1 minute (sculling is allowed)

    Failure to pass the precourse requirements will result in inability to participate in the course and no refunds will be given.
